Based on this short video, the author Brad Meltzer is either:
a/ A marketing genius
b/ Demonstrating how to employ the anti-Alice Hoffman approach to criticism
c/ Understands the principle of negative reviews which compels readers to buy bad books so they can either agree/disagree with the masses and chat about their agreement/disagreement at cocktail parties.
It appears Mr. Meltzer's strategy is working here as his latest book is on many best-seller lists. Of course, this isn't his first book. Still. If this concept is helpful then...My book really stinks. Don't read it. Really. Don't.

This is a hoot, Karen. Made me laugh.
That is too funny! Now I want to read his book just because I know he has a wicked sense of humor!
Kathryn-
Glad you got a laugh from it. I did, too!
Stacy -
I feel the same way, blast him! I already have way too many books on my desk.
Too funny. It makes me want to read the book more now.
Genius. Pure genius. And a great way to get the word out, so much better thatn the overheated, bordering on juvenile, expressions of contempt in the Hoffman and Caleb Crain pieces.
Jeez, people...write what you feel, the truth will out. And one review could hardly undo two years of work. Besides, if you write purely to appease the critics (or review to appease the authors) then you are in the business for the wrong reasons.
Good post!
I love Brad's books. Maybe I'm alone in this? He's also very frank about his road to publishing. More than one agent told him he didn't know how to write. Obviously he found one who disagreed. And a legion of fans too.
I blogged on this too, and I couldn't help but draw the Alice Hoffman comparison.
I laughed myself silly the first time I saw the video. It was great.
