The Daily Beast has a terrific gallery/article on the topic of My Favorite Summer Read....Ever in which several notable authors share their own choices. Last summer, I would have to say Jayne Pupek's Tomato Girl was my favorite hot-weather read. This summer it's a toss up between The Paris Wife by Paula McLaine and Chris Cleave's haunting debut, Incendiary.(Although I'm currently reading The Wizard of Oz to my daughters and, well, it may well be a lasting memory for all three of us summer bibliophiles!) If I was forced to pick a favorite of all-time, I might have to choose Where The Red Fern Grows. I still remember being called out of my room for dinner, still sobbing and sobbing into my plate.
What is your favorite summer read?
I seem to read the same kinds of books year-around. I really liked THE TIGER'S WIFE, but I have a feeling most people aren't going to call it a summer read.
ReplyDeleteI did like RED FERN...years ago.
Malcolm
Sooo many incredible books and we're supposed to pick one favorite?? Gosh, how can you do that?? Books are like people, special and unique.
ReplyDeleteExcept the duds.
Hrmmm, well my favorite of all time is "The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy." I am a sci-fi nerd and tend to stick within that genre but I like it to have a comic twinge ;D
ReplyDeleteI don't have a particular summer read. but my favourite summer book for the moment is 'Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler. Was WOW.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of either of yours, will check them out. :D
BarmyBex,
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by. I'll have to look up Twenty Boy Summer as well. :)
