In the film DEAD POETS SOCIETY, written by Tom Schulman, the character John Keating says

"We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman, "O me! Booking Through Thursday: 5 books to reread

This week's Booking Through Thursday question is a good one: If you could only select five books to reread in a lifetime, what would they be and why? 




To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee - This is one of those stories that gifts the reader with something new at each reading.


Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert - I do reread this novel every few years. It never gets boring. It's always contemporary. It always boggles the mind that it was written hundreds of years ago. 


Durable Goods by Elizabeth Berg - For me, Durable Goods is the comfort food of books. (I feel that way about most of Berg's books.) I love getting to spend time with the main character.


Happiness Is A Serious Problem by Dennis Prager - I get so much out of Dennis Prager's philosophy on happiness. This book will be a reread for life because of its admonitions that we are obligated to be happy and to focus on continually counting our blessings.
